Camphor Oil
Herbology Camphor Oil is 100% pure, steam-distilled Cinnamomum camphora (Camphor Tree) wood oil — one of the most instantly recognizable and widely used therapeutic botanical oils in the world, with a history of medicinal use spanning over 1,000 years across traditional Chinese medicine, Ayurveda, and South Asian folk medicine. Known as “Kafoor” in Urdu and Arabic, camphor holds a deeply familiar place in South Asian households — used in religious rituals, traditional medicine, and everyday wellness care across the subcontinent for generations. Its unmistakably sharp, penetrating, cooling aroma is one of the most distinctive and immediately recognizable scents in the botanical world.
Camphor Oil’s primary active compound is camphor (1,7,7-trimethylbicyclo[2.2.1]heptan-2-one) — a bicyclic monoterpenoid that acts as a TRPV1 and TRPM8 receptor modulator when applied topically, producing the characteristic cooling sensation by activating cold-sensitive TRPM8 receptors while simultaneously desensitizing heat-sensitive TRPV1 receptors. This dual receptor mechanism is the pharmacological basis of camphor’s legendary cooling, analgesic, and counter-irritant action — the same mechanism exploited in pharmaceutical topical analgesics and cooling rubs worldwide. Its 1,8-cineole content contributes additional anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. On the scalp, its cooling, antimicrobial, and vasodilatory action soothes irritation, addresses dandruff-causing microorganisms, and stimulates circulation for a healthier scalp environment. In muscle care, its analgesic and counter-irritant properties provide genuine relief for tired, sore muscles. Always dilute before skin application — a potent therapeutic oil that must be used with appropriate care.

- Scalp treatment: Add 3–5 drops to 30ml of carrier oil (coconut or sesame) and massage into scalp. Leave for 20–30 minutes before washing out. Particularly effective for itchy, irritated, or dandruff-prone scalps.
- Aromatherapy / respiratory support: Add 3–5 drops to a diffuser or bowl of hot water for steam inhalation for a clearing, invigorating respiratory experience.
- Cooling body blend: Combine with peppermint and eucalyptus essential oils in a carrier oil for an intensely cooling, refreshing body massage blend — ideal for hot weather and post-exercise recovery.
- Tip: Camphor Oil is a cornerstone of traditional South Asian hair oiling — adding 3–5 drops to your regular hair oil blend provides a deeply cooling, scalp-stimulating, and antimicrobial boost that is particularly refreshing in hot weather.
- Important: Always dilute before skin application (1–2% in carrier oil). Never apply undiluted. Avoid during pregnancy. Avoid in children under 2 years — camphor can cause serious adverse effects in young children. Do not ingest. Keep away from children. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes.
